Detroit Mission Trip

August 6-12

WHEN: Monday, August 6 – Sunday, August 12. (We’ll leave ~9:00 am on Monday, returning late evening the following Sunday).
WHERE: Southwest Detroit, working with “Refuge Detroit”. (
WHO: High School and College Students
WHY: To use our energy and gifts to make known the name of Christ and Refuge Detroit.
COST: $245 per person (see cost breakdown below)
WHAT: 3 different teams will operate daily on Aug 7-10

  • Team #1 Community Development: Boarding up houses, home rehab, trash clean-up, landscaping, etc.
  • Team #2 Backyard Bible Clubs: Conducting small scale Children’s Ministry events in backyards
  • Team #3 Education: Reading comprehension for kids and parents (Spanish speaking is a plus!)

Pre-trip Requirements:
Read “A Meal With Jesus” by Tim Chester and “Helping Without Hurting in Short Term Missions” By Steven Corbett and Brian Fikkert (Do not buy these, we will purchase them for all once our team is set).
Prioritize the meetings on Selected Sundays throughout the summer. (Dates TBA)

Cost Breakdown:
Transportation: $70
Accommodations: $35 per person, staying at Merriman Road Baptist (
Food: $70/person ($10/person/day for 7 days). We are doing grab and go breakfasts (granola bars/bananas) and Build-Your-Own Sandwiches for lunch. Dinners will be at Merriman Rd. Dinner on 2-3 nights will be on your own.
Group fun activity: $20 (Tiger’s game Saturday)
Equipment/supplies/books unforeseen expenses: $50/person (Backyard Bible Club supplies, sports equipment, music equipment, etc.)
