Serve in Our Community
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12
Before Jesus commanded us to go to the uttermost parts of the world, He said that there was need for the saving message of the Gospel right in our own back yard. Our Compassions ministry at Harvest is primarily focused around our 5 Local Ministry Partners and efforts. We are seeking to equip the church to show compassion as we make disciples in our community.
Compassion Ministry Opportunities
Project WARM is a Christ-centered outreach providing overnight weather protection for homeless men during the coldest months of the year. As a church we collect monthly donations of socks, coats, and other needs that are distributed as needed. Also, our church handles a snack and devotional for about 30 days of the winter during each Week of WARM. It’s a great opportunity to build trust and share the love of Jesus. Week of WARM meets at 532 S. Michigan street in South Bend.
JANUARY COLLECTION ITEMS: Men’s winter gloves, long underwear, and deodorant.
JANUARY WEEK OF WARM: January 24 – 30. Each evening, we will serve the homeless men there by providing a devotion and a snack. If you would like to get involved, please contact email@example.com.
Hope’s vision is to create a community in which hurting people find healing. We serve meals regularly at Hope’s kitchen to the homeless, as well as put on family nights for the residents who live there.
Meals at Hope: The following date are available: 1/17, 2/8, 3/21, 4/23, 5/18, 6/10, 7/18, 8/21. To serve a meal, contact Kevin Frecker.
Safe Families for Children
Harvest Bible Chapel, Granger partners with Safe Families for Children to provide a network of families to love and care for kids in need. Safe Families for Children seeks to provide temporary homes for kids while their parents deal with crisis situations—whether that be sudden homelessness, loss of a job, or maybe a medical emergency. There are many ways to get involved in Safe Families, such as becoming a host family, providing coaching to a parent in crisis, or supporting host families by donating clothes, diapers, food and other items.
If you are interested in becoming a host family, parent case-coach, or desire more information about Safe Families, please contact Jessie Klein: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested in donating items (such as diapers, formula, etc.), please contact Lauren Hannah: email@example.com.
We partner with Transformation Ministries in outreach to the youth of inner city South Bend. Transformation Ministries exists to see the youth of South Bend become positive influencers within their families, schools, and communities. We have the opportunity to provide meals to the mentorship groups that meet weekly, as well as hold special events that serve as a blessing to the youth in this community.
Amazing Grace Ministry
This is our outreach ministry to the local nursing homes in the Michiana area. Not only is this a way of getting the Gospel to the residence in the homes, but also to the families, and workers. We serve 6 nursing homes on an ongoing basis throughout the week. We are in need of those who are able to teach or serve during the day at these various opportunities.
