Our Story
On February 12, 2012 Harvest Bible Chapel Granger will celebrate its third birthday by opening its new worship facility at 52277 Hickory Road in Granger. Harvest Bible Chapel is part of an international church planting movement that originates from Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago founded by Dr. James MacDonald. Harvest Granger was the 37th church of what now is over 70 churches that include churches through out the U.S., Canada, Romania, Nepal, and Liberia.
Harvest Granger began modestly with a core group of 13 people who met for prayer and Bible study in the basement of Bob and Donna Hogarth for almost two years. Senior Pastor, Trent Griffith says, "The core group was committed to do whatever it took to build a Bible-centered church in Granger." Harvest Granger's first service was attended by 250 people on February 8, 2009 at Northpoint Elementary School. For three years Harvest has continued to meet at the school each Sunday while the congregation has doubled in size.
The adoption of Cornerstone Community Church in Granger in January 2011 has provided a new home for Harvest. In 2011 the leadership at Cornerstone approached the leadership of Harvest with the idea of the two churches becoming one under the identity, leadership, and distinctives of Harvest. Pastor Trent says, "The people of cornerstone showed incredible humility and vision by embracing the people and values of Harvest. Harvest needed a facility and Cornerstone needed a fresh start. I’ve heard many of them say, 'This is the kind of church I've longed to be a part of for years.'"
Because Harvest's attendance had grown beyond what the former Cornerstone worship center could seat, Harvest undertook an expansion and renovation project that has resulted in a new 600-seat worship center. Harvest will meet in the new facility for the first time on Sunday, February 12, 2012.
Harvest Bible Chapel is committed to not only introducing people to Jesus Christ but teaching and equipping them to live a biblical lifestyle. Pastor Trent says, "The word 'Bible' is in our name for a reason. It is the timeless self-disclosure of God's will and ways. In every service at Harvest you are going to hear someone say, 'Open your Bible.' Our services are designed to bring people into God’s presence. In a day where churches are trying to convince people they are relevant, we are trying to be a church that offers something you can't get at the mall, a concert, or a theater."
"The songs we sing and the messages we preach are designed to get your focus off yourself and onto Jesus, the only one who is powerful enough to help the situations you face everyday."
"As our church grows larger, we will seek to maintain the interpersonal connection you would sense in a smaller church through our small groups. Every member at Harvest is committed to a small group where they are loved, encouraged, and known."
Harvest Granger is currently helping to plant the next Harvest Bible Chapel in Fort Wayne and strengthening sister churches in Romania and Liberia. Harvest is also investing in the local community through a friendship with Hope Ministries. Members regularly serve residents at Hope in a variety of ways. The future looks bright as God continues to build His church.
Join us before the big day on Saturday, February 11 for an Open House from 5:00 - 6:00pm and a Prayer Service following from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Childcare will be provided for ages birth - 5th grade during the prayer service.
